EAT, DRINK,
SHOP & BE MERRY.
Heights Mistletoe Madness, 1st Saturday, December 1st.
HOUSTON HEIGHTS, TX –Heights
Mistletoe Madness 2007 is coming together with more diverse,
artful, one-of-a-kind, and quirky offerings than ever.
Billed by organizers as just the right mix of “Eat, Drink,
Shop & Be Merry,” it promises to be another great Heights
event. With sponsors like Spanish Flowers Mexican
Restaurant, The Glass Wall, Shade, Karen Derr & Associates
Realtors, Buchanan’s Native Plants, Koelsch Gallery, Harolds
in the Heights, and Bacardi, the party promises to be one to
do justice to the neighborhood. Flowing white banners mark
participating businesses who are offering hospitality,
specials, and events. Recently off the successful 30,000+
visitors-strong White Linen Night, organizers are readying
for the next big event in the Heights – the 2nd annual
Heights Mistletoe Madness, scheduled for December 1, 2007,
from Noon to 8:00pm.
The event showcases the Heights
faithfully - profiling the people, the shop owners, the
artists and the businesses that make the Heights a classy,
progressive, and fabulous destination not to be missed.
Visitors are encouraged to come early, browse, eat, and
enjoy the sights and shops not found anywhere else in
Houston. The Heights Holiday Home Tour is the same weekend,
so there’s a lot of to cover in the neighborhood.
“Heights business owners are courageous. Residents are
interested in living differently. Events work in the Heights
because of its artistic, diverse, and offbeat ways,” says
Karen Mann, one of the organizers.
Many “best-of” establishments call the Heights home,
including the best chicken-fried steak in Houston, the best
new restaurant of 2007, the best plants, the best new store,
the best late-night restaurant, the best tacos, best
barbecue, and even the best value. Galleries with
every-changing fresh art stocked with ideas for your best
gift list – including you.
Restaurants are in plentiful supply. Seasonal bistro menus,
slow-smoked brisket, sizzling fajitas with homemade salsas,
Vietnamese vermicelli, Thai curry, paisano Italian,
chicken-fried steak, and gourmet burgers are some of your
choices.
Harolds in the Heights is planning a live fashion show in
their window, including some of the other boutiques on 19th
Street. Shops carrying retro, trendy, bling, high fashion,
fine leather goods, hand-made jewelry, and showy studded
accessories line street. You’ll also find some of the most
varied antiques and imports for the home in this small
expanse of blocks. Thailand, China, Morocco, Indonesia,
India, Mexico and, of course, America are represented. The
Yale Street Arts Market will be open and heaving with fresh
original art for sale. Art furniture made from reclaimed
wood and materials can be found, too.
In
conjunction with Historic Heights 1st Saturday, Heights
businesses - the Whole Heights - are extending the day into
evening for a 1st Saturday of December like no other. Enjoy
the chill in the air. Hail a pedi-cab, a motorized rickshaw,
or hop a shuttle for a different trip to a gallery, shop,
restaurant, or home. Choose from gifts that you won’t find
anywhere else – fresh, original art, jewelry, clothing, home
furnishings, antiques, furniture. Stroll the streets or take
a shuttle with a cup of warm Wassail. Tour the Victorian
homes. Hear live music. Smell the wood smoke from the
chimneys. See good art. Buy really great gifts! Try a new
restaurant or revisit an old favorite. Enjoy the ultimate
first Saturday of December in the Heights.
